    POLICE OFFICER

    The Banner Elk Police Department is currently accepting resumes for the position of Police Officer.  We seek individuals who are professional, motived and be of high morals and integrity.  Applicants must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license, high school diploma or GED and proof of completion of North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training.     PUBLIC SERVICES TECHNICIAN

    The Town of Banner Elk is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Services Technician.  General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible semi-skilled and skilled work in the water distribution, sewer collection, well and wastewater treatment plant maintenance, and the maintenance of streets, storm drains, parks, sidewalks, and Town facilities. Distinguishing Features of the Class: An employee in this class participates in maintenance of public utilities, infrastructure, public buildings, streets, storm drainage, rights-of-way, parks, and landscaping. Work includes mowing various public lands, patching asphalt, maintaining street signs, checking and maintaining water and sewer pumps, installation of new water and sewer taps and services, reading water meters, repairing water and sewer lines and appurtenances, and general building and facility maintenance. Qualifications: General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools; some knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of equipment used in grounds, utility and street maintenance; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to follow verbal and written assignments; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers. Must be available for stand-by and emergency call-back duties. Desirable Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED and some experience in the maintenance of buildings, landscape, streets, utilities and appurtenances; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements: Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina with ability to obtain CDL driver’s license within six months of hire. Possession of or ability to obtain distribution and collection certificates issued by the State of North Carolina.
