The events begin, traditionally around and about Lees-McRae College at the bookstore. Anyone may join, there is never an entry fee or a formal registration system. The Brown family had a float this year. The point is, anyone can join the fun, the kids will never forget these events for the rest of their lives.
The watchers typically have the identical reaction to the marchers, "I'm on the correct side of the events this year".
The parade leaves Lees-McRae, turns right onto main street, passes the Lees-McRae Summer Theater, Dunn's Deli, The Exxon, Blue Fin restaurant, The Shops at Banner Elk, then turns right at Bank of America to town park. There, Roy Krege, who announces the extent of the parade at the crating line-up, leads the apple bobbing, sack racing, egg tossing, and for the first year, the duck racing down Shawneehaw Creek. This year, one lucky angler caught a ten inch trout during the mayhem.
